Illinois' Georgia Malandraki and Brad Sutton will present, "Multimodal Approaches to Understanding Swallowing Control and Developing Plasticity Based Interventions for Dysphagia" at this installment of the Neuromusculoskeletal Seminar Series. This seminar will focus on present multimodal research using MRI/fMRI, surface EMG, and videofluoroscopy to elucidate neural-muscular mechanisms of swallowing. Early findings from two NIH-funded studies will be highlighted, demonstrating how integrated physiologic and neuroimaging data can guide development of innovative, plasticity-based interventions for dysphagia in individuals with neurogenic disorders. Professional Development
One critical component that makes research impactful is the effective presentation of data. In this workshop, you will learn some effective strategies for clear and effective data presentation in the context of journal articles, research posters, and PowerPoint presentations. By the end of this workshop, you will learn conventions for writing with figures, methods for analyzing your figure and table design, and how to apply these lessons to a variety of contexts. This presentation will be held via Zoom and is open to all current U of I affiliates (students, faculty, and staff). You will need to be logged into your Illinois Zoom account to join. Please register with your Illinois email by March 8 to receive the Zoom details on the morning of the event. If you register on the day of, please email wow@illinois.edu immediately to request the Zoom details - we will do our best to get them to you prior to the event but cannot make any guarantees. All registrants will receive access to the presentation materials via email the following business day.

During this workshop, we will discuss the fundamentals of proposal writing, guiding undergraduate students to formulate successful research projects and explain their research in a concise and compelling manner that is understandable to a general audience. Students will leave the workshop with (1) basic knowledge about research proposals and their structure, (2) tactics and tools to write successful research statements, and (3) a list of resources for assistance in the writing process. This workshop is a collaboration between the Office of Undergraduate Research and the Writers Workshop and will be most well-suited for undergraduates who are drafting proposals for the first time, hoping to improve their proposal writing skills, and/or applying for an OUR Research Support Grant. This event will be held in the Illini Union Bookstore room 504. It is open to current University of Illinois affiliates (students, faculty, and staff). Please register using your Illinois email address by March 8, and Writers Workshop will send a reminder on the morning of the event. This event will also be held on March 5.
