The issue is titled “Advancing the Science of Human and Machine Intelligence: Forging Connections between Psychology, Neuroscience, and Engineering.”

The special issue is motivated by research within the Intelligence, Learning, and Plasticity theme at the Beckman Institute and encourages collaborations that bridge human and machine intelligence. The goal is to advance the development of new cognitive neuroscience theories of human intelligence, novel technology, and statistical methods to drive innovation in human-centered machine intelligence.

Modern advances in computer science and engineering demonstrate the potential of new technological tools and statistical methods to measure, model, and characterize intelligent behavior and to imbue machines with new capabilities to positively impact human performance and society,” Barbey said. “We invite life scientists, computer scientists, social scientists, and engineers to inspire the next generation of theories and technological tools to advance the science of both human and machine intelligence and to investigate the implications of these discoveries for human-computer interaction, performance monitoring, and optimization, and human mental life and society.”

The deadline for submissions is in August. For more information, please email Barbey.

Barbey directs the Center for Brain Plasticity, the Decision Neuroscience Laboratory, and leads the Intelligence, Learning, and Plasticity group.
