Hua Li is a Research Associate Professor in Bioengineering and the Carle Illinois College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. She is also a medical physicist in the Carle Cancer Center, and her research focuses on the development of advanced imaging and image analysis techniques. Li is currently working on personalized chemo-radiation therapy for cervical cancer patients. Previously, she was a lead investigator on a project developing automated contouring quality assessment prototyping software.

Image-guided adaptive radiation therapy
Functional image-based tumor response assessment and predication
Task-based medical imaging quality assessment
Medical imaging and image analysis for diagnosis and radiation therapy
Multi-modality imaging and image analysis techniques
The research work conducted in Professor Li’s lab focuses on developing novel medical imaging and image analysis techniques for solving the challenges seen in clinical practice and improving personalized patient care. The work focuses on four topics: deep learning for clinical decision-making, medical imaging and image restoration for clinical applications, task-based medical imaging and image restoration assessment and optimization, and improvement of radiation treatment on cancer patients.
