Gregory A. MillerGregory A. MillerGregory A. Miller, a professor emeritus of psychology at Illinois, has joined the Beckman Institute.

Miller studies schizophrenia, depression, anxiety and other disorders using magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography, magnetoencephalography, electrocardiography and eye-tracking.

He is especially interested in how regional brain connectivity may contribute to risk for, prevention of and treatment of these disorders. He also has expertise in statistical methods of data analysis to their applications in clinical research.

Miller collaborates with Beckman faculty members Wendy Heller of psychology and Brad Sutton of bioengineering, as well as Tracey Wszalek, director of Beckman’s Biomedical Imaging Center. Their collaborations are working to identify and eventually modify brain circuits involved in anxiety, emphasizing 7 Tesla MRI imaging and peripheral physiology. The collaborators are especially interested in relationships between brainstem nuclei and cortical control centers.

“I’m very excited about the synergy of expertise and opportunity that the Beckman neuroimaging community provides,” Miller said.

Miller is also a distinguished research professor in the UCLA Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Sciences.
