Erik Nelson is an associate professor in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology. He joins the Beckman Institute as a member of the Extracellular Vesicle Imaging and Therapy Group within the Integrative Imaging research theme. He is also affiliated with the Cancer Center at Illinois, the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology, and the Division of Nutritional Sciences.
Nelson's research focuses on how cholesterol metabolism impacts cancer progression. Access to the Beckman Institute's cutting-edge imaging resources and expertise is crucial to holistically understanding this biology.
"The interdisciplinary approach at Beckman will allow us to investigate how cholesterol metabolism impacts cancer progression in new ways and using approaches not available otherwise," he said. "This will ultimately lead to a better understanding of disease and the development of targeted therapies."
