Yun-Sheng Chen, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, accepted a full-time faculty appointment at the Beckman Institute. Chen will be a member of the Extracellular Vesicle Imaging and Therapy Group in the Integrative Imaging theme. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow in Stanford School of Medicine's radiology department.

Chen's research aims to harness the power of imaging science, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence to innovate diagnostic imaging tools and achieve early diagnoses and precise screenings of diseases. He is particularly interested in developing imaging technologies to reveal the human body's molecular details without bulky hardware, ionizing sources, and radioactive imaging agents.

"Collaboration across disciplines is central to our research. In the past, I have collaborated with chemists, biologists, and engineers in other areas. Beckman naturally brings these talents together," Chen said.

"Together, I am confident that we can make breakthroughs in medical imaging."
