The Heart and Vascular Institute of Carle Foundation Hospital and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have partnered to create a new Carle-Beckman Postdoctoral Fellowship in heart and vascular research.

“As the new medical director of Carle’s Heart and Vascular Institute, I’m honored and I look forward to co-mentoring a new postdoctoral fellow in translational heart and vascular research,” said Dr. Issam Moussa, M.D., MBA, FACC, FAHA, FSCAI. “In keeping with the Carle Illinois College of Medicine’s unique perspective on engineering-based approaches to medicine, it will be enriching to foster interdisciplinary research in neuro-cardiology, as well as advanced cardiac molecular imaging.”

Those involved know partnerships like this pay off in a variety of ways that benefit patients, researchers, and health care teams.

“Beckman and Carle have worked together since 2008 on our joint Carle Foundation Hospital-Beckman Institute Postdoctoral Fellows Program,” said Patricia Jones, the associate director for research at the Beckman Institute. “Beckman’s continued evolution into new areas of translational biomedical research, molecular science and engineering, and neuroscience all depend in part on having wonderful postdoctoral fellows to be the bridges between faculty research groups and clinical partners.”

Carle and Beckman will jointly fund one new Carle-Beckman Postdoctoral Fellow with a focus on cardiovascular research, especially in the areas of neuro-cardiology and advanced cardiac molecular imaging. The call for applications began Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, and closes March 26, 2019. For more information, contact beckmanfellows@beckman.illinois.edu.
