“It is no secret that we are an aging society,” said Liz Stine-Morrow, chair of CLEAR. “Population aging, booming boomers, silver tsunami … it’s all over the popular media, and there is obviously wide concern about the pathways to aging well.”
CLEAR plans to bring a number of researchers across the University of Illinois to study factors related to healthy cognitive aging.
“At Illinois, we actually have quite a few independent labs doing work on aging, but we aren’t always familiar with the research that is going on across the way. Aging is complicated! At the very least, it involves biological, psychological, social, and environmental processes, so that understanding how to age well requires what you might call a ‘cell to society’ perspective. Our hope is that the CLEAR initiative will bring people together from different disciplines--psychology, cognitive and affective neuroscience, kinesiology, education, engineering, health sciences--to enable us to do more sophisticated basic and translational research to address this problem.”
On February 19, 2016, at 1:30 pm, CLEAR is hosting a celebration of aging research at Illinois in Room 5602 Beckman Institute. Welcome remarks will be followed by an “Aging Research blitz” and a poster session in the Beckman atrium.
