Beckman Institute Open House 2013 has been set for March 8-9. The biennial event will, as in past years, be held in conjunction with Engineering Open House at the University of Illinois.
Users of the Beckman Institute’s Microscopy Suite receive expert training and, quite often, views of their samples they can’t get anywhere else.
A trio of Beckman Institute researchers are spearheading the effort at the University of Illinois to bring low-cost, accurate, full genome sequencing of human DNA to the world. Jean-Pierre Leburton, Aleksei Aksimentiev, and Rashid Bashir are leading the effort, funded by a recent agreement signed with Oxford Nanopore Technologies, Ltd.
The Winter 2013 issue of Synergy features Beckman researchers developing a revolutionary new DNA sequencing method, as well as a look inside the daily workings of the Institute's Microscopy Suite. There are also profiles of alumnus Matt Meitl and Beckman Fellow Sarah Erickson-Bhatt.
