ALURU, ROTH NAMED UNIVERSITY SCHOLARS
Beckman Institute faculty members Narayana Aluru and Dan Roth have been named University Scholars. Aluru is Co-chair of the Molecular and Electronic Nanostructures research theme while Roth is a researcher in the Artificial Intelligence group. http://www.news.illinois.edu/news/10/0915_university_scholars.html

SYNERGY 16 NOW ONLINE
The Fall 2010 issue of Synergy is now online and features high tech applications and science but most of all it is about people: how biosensing applications could someday help people, what happens when science becomes a family affair, and profiles of two people whose research is benefitting others. FIRST GRADUATE STUDENT SEMINAR SET FOR SEPTEMBER 22
The first Graduate Student Seminar of the Fall 2010 semester is set for Wednesday, September 22 at Noon in Room 1005. The seminar will feature three short talks from graduate students: Laura Chaddock, Corissa Lee, and Lydia Majure. BECKMAN TEAM SCORES HIGHEST AT IMAGE COMPETITION
Beckman researcher Tom Huang led a team that finished with the top three scores at the ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge 2010. The competition tests teams from around the world on the accuracy of their object classifier algorithms used to retrieve and identify content images. http://www.beckman.illinois.edu/news/HuangImageNet
