Get to Know Neil Dettling
Tell us about your career as a painter:
Being in the painting trade for so long exposes you to all aspects of the craft. You have to do exteriors, interiors, and everything in between. You learn to do drywall work, spray finishes, repair glass and signs. You get to do more detailed work such as faux finishes, trim work and matching stains and colors. We hang wall coverings in vinyl and paper. But what I really like is the finished product and knowing that I did my best to make it right.

How long have you worked at Beckman?
I have been the resident painter at Beckman for over six years now. My service at the university has been for 28 years and I have been in the trades for around 40 years.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I will retire soon (at the end of March) and plan to move on to different and exciting things. My wonderful wife and I have a camper on Lake Shelbyville that we love to go to. We also like to go see shows, plays, and listen to different bands.
What are your fondest memories of your time at Beckman?
My time here has been the most enjoyable by far. The people here are exceptional and world class. I have truly enjoyed every minute of it. I can't stress enough how wonderful the people here at Beckman are. When they talk about the Beckman family they truly mean it in every sense of the way
