Biography

Ioannis Chasiotis received his Ph.D. in Aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology in 2001. He is an associate professor in the Illinois Department of Aerospace Engineering and a part-time faculty member in the Beckman Institute Autonomous Materials Systems group. His fields of professional interest include nanoscale mechanical behavior of anisotropic and inhomogeneous nanostructured materials.

Research

Professor Chasiotis' research at Beckman focuses on the nanoscale mechanical behavior of anisotropic and inhomogeneous nanostructured materials including polymer nanofibers and ultra thin films for MEMS and other applications. His group develops scanning probe microscopy methods to measure strains and deformations at the scale of a few nanometers.
