Jonathan Freund, a member of the Beckman Institute’s Autonomous Materials Systems group, recently won the François Frenkiel award from the American Physical Society’s Division of Fluid Dynamics.

According to the award announcement, the François Frenkiel award recognizes “significant contributions to fluid mechanics that have been published in Physics of Fluids during the preceding year by young investigators. The selection of the winner is determined by the Frenkiel Award Committee and is presented each year at the DFD Annual Meeting in November.”

Freund was awarded the prize for his paper Leukocyte Margination in a Model Microvessel published in Physics of Fluids, 19 023301 (2007).

Freund is an Associate Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois.

His research is in areas such as aerodynamic sound, large-scale parallel computing, molecular dynamics simulation of nanometer scale flows, and heat transfer in solids.
