  • Biography

I am a neuroscience Ph.D. student from Puerto Rico, graduated from Ana G. Mendez, Universidad del Este in Carolina. My current research at the laboratory of Catherine Best-Gabriel Popescu focuses on topics such as neuroimaging, molecular neuroscience, and bioengineering. My experience in the neuroscience field started since I was in my bachelor’s degree by scholarships and summer internships  awards on Research Initiative for Science Enhancement (RISE), SROP at Illinois, and REU “Discoveries in Bioimaging” at the Bioengineering Department at the University of Illinois as well. They allowed me to participate in professional workshops and science conferences in neuroscience, biotechnology, and bioengineering. My experience includes research in behavior, psychophysiology, epigenetic, addiction, neuro-degeneration and imagingall of them in a neuroscience setting.

  • Research

I'm in the track to implement synthetic fluorescent molecules along with brain clearing techniques to image rodent brains. We aim to build a complete high resolution 3D brain image to characterize neuronal circuits using state of the art confocal and quantitative phase microscopy such as the spatial light interference microscopy (SLIM). My goal is to comprehend several neurotransmitter receptors and the neuronal cytoarchitecture in the complex environment of brain networks.
